TMQ Activity Groups

The guild provides many opportunities for members to participate in fun and fulfilling activities.

Antique Quilt Study

This group meets monthly to explore and learn about vintage quilts and textiles. Presentations are made by members on a variety of topics throughout the year, followed by a lively discussion.  This engaging and informative group meets on the first Monday of each month.

The group is also working on the Nevada Quilt Registry Project
(see below).

Featherweight Sewing

This activity group was started in 2022 for members who have a vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machine (those without Featherweight machines are also welcome). The group’s activities include making charity quilts and working on independent projects. They meet on the second Wednesday of each month at the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department on Red Rock Road.

Bee Groups

The guild supports the creation of small groups of quilters who meet on a regular basis and share the love of the craft.

Nevada Quilt Registry Project

The Nevada Quilt Registry Project (NQRP) is an opportunity to contribute to public awareness of, and respect for, quilts, quiltmakers and their importance to our culture. The goal of NQRP is to document all quilts in Nevada.

Candidates for this effort include the following quilt types:

  • Historic

  • Vintage

  • Contemporary

Any quilt is eligible for inclusion as long as it resides in Nevada and has not been previously documented. The quilting/sewing skill embodied in the quilt is inconsequential.

The ultimate aim for NQRP is to forward this documentation electronically to the Quilt Index, a major data repository housed at Michigan State University. The Quilt Index is an open access, digital repository of thousands of images, stories and information about quilts and their makers drawn from hundreds of public and private collections around the world (see QuiltIndex.org).

By adding the Nevada information to the Quilt Index, worldwide researchers, historians, and quilt aficionados will have access to a treasure trove of data regarding quilts currently located in our state.

NQRP is sponsored, in part, by Truckee Meadows Quilters. For further information or questions, email nvquiltreg@gmail.com.
