TMQ Community Outreach
Community outreach is a core value of the guild. TMQ members provide quilts to multiple local Northern Nevada recipients while creating awareness of the craft to the public. In 2023, more than 200 quilts were delivered to local charities.
Babies and Kids Quilts
Members create and donate child-size and baby quilts to a number of organizations throughout the community. Baby quilts are given to the parents of newborns when leaving the hospital. Hospitalized older children select a quilt to cuddle while at the hospital and then to take home.
Collaborative Quilts
These quilts are most often created with one member making the quilt top and another member quilting and finishing it. Like many of the quilts made by the guild, the collaborative quilts are donated to skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, home health and hospice agencies, and other social services in the community. Members may receive a pieced top (or fabric for a top) in a kit that includes the batting and backing fabric for either a lap size (36”x 40”) or twin size (45”x 60”) quilt.
Opportunity Quilt
Each year, TMQ raffles a quilt to raise money in support of a local charity. Quilt lovers and TMQ champions are given the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the chance to win a lovely quilt. The 2024 Opportunity Quilt, "Sew Many Stars,” measures 61” x 76.” It was pieced by the following TMQ members of “Sew Much Fun” bee group: Cindy Scott, Pat Dutt, Carol Davidson, Cheryl Bernhardt, Marsha Egbert, Joann Kronick, and Brenda Jahnke. TMQ member Debbie Audenreid undertook the long arm quilting, and binding for the quilt was completed by Cindy Scott.
Raffle tickets for the quilt are sold throughout the year at various community events and the winning ticket is drawn at the December TMQ meeting. Proceeds from the 2024 raffle will be presented to OUR Place. OUR Place/RISE, opened in June 2021, is the largest emergency housing provider for women and families in the community. In partnership with Washoe County HSA, the organization provides shelter and wrap-around services every day for more than 138 women, 38 families, 28 seniors, and all of their animal companions.
